Seasons of Gratitude: How to Volunteer and Give Back Locally This Thanksgiving

As the holiday season approaches, our thoughts naturally turn to community, gratitude, and finding meaningful ways to lift up those around us. If you are looking to dedicate some time or resources to help our neighbors this November, Montgomery County is home to several incredible organizations doing vital work. Here are a few wonderful ways you can make a tangible impact:

  • Nourish Now Holiday Operations: Located right in Rockville, Nourish Now works tirelessly to provide thousands of full Thanksgiving meals to families in need across our local area. They accept donations of non-perishable holiday staples and grocery gift cards at their Taft Street headquarters.
  • Manna Food Center: A cornerstone of food equity in Montgomery County, Manna Food Center offers excellent hands-on individual and group volunteer opportunities. Sign up for a shift at their warehouse to sort and pack food donations, or support public community distribution networks.
  • Community Reach of Montgomery County: This fantastic nonprofit participates directly in the regional Holiday Giving Project. Volunteers can step up to assist with collecting, organizing, and distributing holiday food baskets, gift cards, and toys to low-income residents.
  • Montgomery Parks Thanksgiving Clean-up: If you love nature, join the community park clean-up day at the Black Hill Discovery Center on Monday, November 23, 2026 from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM. Help beautify our regional green spaces and protect local Maryland wildlife before sitting down for your holiday feast.
